Andrea Guillen Dutton, M.Ed. has lived, worked, and served within the Chaffey College District her entire life. She and her late husband, Senator Bob Dutton, shared a deep commitment to supporting churches, hospitals, community organizations, and local colleges and universities throughout the Inland Empire.  Their dedication extended well beyond financial support; together, they devoted countless hours to volunteerism, public service, and civic engagement. The Dutton family established two endowed scholarships at Chaffey College, one for Hispanic students and one for Radiologic Technology students, reflecting their shared belief in the transformative power of education.  This spirit of philanthropy remains a cornerstone of their family values and continues through their daughter, Kara Dutton, a vice president in the financial industry who lives in Rancho Cucamonga.

 

Professional and Community Involvement

Andrea is a distinguished health sciences educator with a long-standing career in higher education.  Since 1999, she served as Program Director and Professor of the Chaffey College Radiologic Technology Program, retiring in July 2019 after decades of service to students and the College.   Andrea earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University and is a graduate of the Pomona Valley Hospital School of Radiologic Technology.  She completing her clinical training and was registered, licensed, and certified Radiologic Technologist and Mammographer at the age of 20.

Community Service

Andrea’s commitment to community service spans more than 40 years.  She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for San Antonio Regional Hospital and has previously served on the boards of the Inland Empire Community Foundation, the Chaffey College Foundation, and the Frontier Project. She is a past member of the Chaffey College Latino Faculty and Staff Association, a life member of the CSU San Bernardino Alumni Association, and an active member of the Chaffey College Retirees.

Public Service

Andrea was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (2007–2009) to the California Board of Registered Nursing.  She also served on the California Department of Public Health; Radiologic Health Branch subcommittees focused on Radiologic Technology school regulations and scope of practice. Her service further includes participation on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Council and Special Services Bureau, Uplanders, and Upland Heritage.  She also served on the Parish Council at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Chino.

Professional Accomplishments

In 2019, Andrea was nominated for the 8th Annual Inland Empire/Desert Regional Consortium Excellence Awards for her leadership and commitment to workforce development and education.  She is a recipient of the Hispanic Educator Image Award and the Latina of Distinction Award, and she was named Woman of the Year for the 31st Senate District. Andrea is a published author of five editions of the textbook Medical Techniques & Patient Care in Imaging Technology and has presented at The Association of Collegiate Educators in Technology conferences.  She is also a life member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and a recipient of the Chaffey College President’s Excellence Awards.
